Atlanta’s Mayor Andre Dickens and several key legislators are advocating for property tax relief aimed at seniors ahead of a pivotal vote in November. They will host a press conference today at 10:00 a.m. at Atlanta City Hall to discuss Act 358, a proposed measure that could save eligible seniors aged 65 and older up to $1,000 annually.

The initiative, introduced by former State Senator Jason Esteves, builds upon his earlier legislation, SB 330, which was supported by Dickens, State Representative Inga Willis, and the Atlanta legislative delegation. Act 358 aims to provide a homestead exemption that would reduce the assessed value of qualifying senior homeowners’ properties by $50,000 for property taxes allocated to the City of Atlanta Independent School District.

This legislation seeks to ease the financial burden on seniors facing increasing living costs in Georgia. The press conference will take place in the Mural Room on the second floor of City Hall. Media representatives interested in attending are required to RSVP via the official email provided by the City of Atlanta.

The City of Atlanta’s official website will offer further details about the eligibility criteria and additional statements from the officials involved in this initiative. This proposal reflects a growing concern among city leaders regarding the financial challenges faced by senior citizens, particularly in light of rising expenses.

As the November ballot approaches, the effectiveness of this measure could significantly impact the lives of many seniors in the Atlanta area, providing necessary relief and support.
