Windsor High School Athletes Commit to College Sports

Windsor High School celebrated its annual National Letter of Intent signing ceremony on November 6, 2023, as ten senior athletes finalized their commitments to play college sports next academic year. The event took place at the school’s Reg Figal Gymnasium, which buzzed with excitement despite the ongoing girls volleyball state tournament at the Denver Coliseum.

Among the standout commitments, Deacon Schmitt, a formidable 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive lineman, is heading to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Schmitt, who has played a pivotal role in leading the Wizards to a perfect 10-0 record thus far, is set to compete in the Class 3A playoffs against Severance on November 11, 2023.

In the realm of track and field, Kiana Cumings will represent Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. A member of the Division I Big 12 Conference, Cumings clinched state titles in both the girls 200 and 400 meters during the 4A championships in Lakewood this past May. She also contributed to her team’s victory in the state championship 1,600 relay.

Another basketball hero, Madden Smiley, will play for the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Smiley, a 6-foot-4 point guard, has already made headlines for leading Windsor to its first boys basketball state title in over a century this past March. He will join the Cowboys under the guidance of his godfather, head coach Sundance Wicks.

His teammate, Brady Kingsley, has also made his mark, committing to Fort Lewis College in Durango, where he will continue his basketball career.

On the golf course, Camden Smith has signed with Dickinson State University in North Dakota, joining the NAIA Frontier Conference. Meanwhile, Robert Kendall is set to compete for the United States Air Force Academy wrestling team in Colorado Springs, having recently secured a state championship at 165 pounds in the 4A state tournament.

The volleyball program is represented by Madelyn Bahnsen, who has committed to the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri. A versatile attacker, Bahnsen is currently leading her team in the state championships at the Denver Coliseum.

In swimming, Reagan Annable will join the University of Wyoming’s swimming and diving program after finishing as the diving runner-up at the 4A state meet last February. Evan Perez is set to wrestle for North Dakota State University in Fargo, where he hopes to add to his accolades after winning a state title at 215 pounds.

Lastly, Maya Brasch has committed to Wichita State University in Kansas, where she will compete in women’s track and field. Brasch played a significant role in Windsor’s championship 1,600 relay team and achieved impressive finishes in the 100 and 200 meters during the state meet.

As these talented athletes prepare for the next chapter of their athletic careers, Windsor High School continues to foster a strong culture of sportsmanship and achievement. The commitments made during this ceremony are a testament to the hard work and dedication of each athlete and the supportive community surrounding them.
