SGMC Health has awarded Caitlin Edwards, a health unit coordinator in the Smith Northview Emergency Department, with the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award for October 2023. This accolade recognizes non-nursing staff who display exceptional dedication, teamwork, and compassion in supporting nursing teams.
Edwards was nominated for her swift and decisive action during a critical situation. According to the nomination, she noticed a patient in the waiting area suffering from severe chest pain. Demonstrating remarkable intuition, she promptly escorted the patient into a treatment room and completed the intake process there. Her quick thinking facilitated immediate testing, which revealed a life-threatening condition that required urgent medical intervention.
Recognizing Dedication and Compassion
SGMC Health emphasized that Edwards’ ability to assess the urgency of the situation and expedite care was crucial in ensuring the patient received timely and necessary treatment. The organization noted that her actions not only exemplified the spirit of the BEE Award but also highlighted the vital role of non-nursing staff in patient care.
The BEE Award is presented monthly to recognize employees such as patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants who demonstrate extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and compassion in their roles. Nominees are evaluated on their leadership, attitude, and clinical support skills.
SGMC Health operates various recognition programs aimed at honoring employees who embody the organization’s mission of providing “Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness.” To learn more about the BEE Award and other recognition initiatives, interested individuals can visit sgmc.org/recognition.
