Santa Clarita Valley Chamber Celebrates Veterans at Annual Event

The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce honored local veterans during its 15th annual “Salute to Patriots” event on November 5, 2025. The ceremony took place at the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida, recognizing veterans for their ongoing contributions to the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) community after their military service.

Dignitaries and community members gathered to celebrate the six honorees this year: Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Wells, and Eric White. Although Camille Applin-Jones was unable to attend, she will be recognized at next year’s ceremony.

The event serves as a platform to express gratitude to veterans for their “unwavering service, your profound sacrifice, and your steadfast dedication to safeguarding the freedoms we cherish as Americans,” stated Di Thompson, chair of the board for the SCV Chamber. She emphasized that these individuals are not only defenders of the nation but also integral to the community’s fabric.

During the ceremony, Ivan Volschenk, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber, highlighted the importance of honoring veterans who have made significant impacts in the business community. He noted that many deserving individuals may not receive recognition but are worthy of the honor.

As each honoree was called to the podium, local leaders shared brief insights into their contributions. All six honorees have been instrumental in enhancing the SCV community, creating a brighter environment for both veterans and non-veterans alike.

Among the honorees, Emily White introduced her husband, Eric White, expressing her pride in his accomplishments. “I love that he has a servant’s heart. He goes out of his way to serve anyone he meets,” she said, reflecting on his dedication to the community.

Robert Lasher, another honoree, shared how his volunteer work at the SCV Food Pantry has given him purpose, especially after losing his wife during the pandemic. “It was nice that they were there to help me out, and for me to help them out,” he remarked, highlighting the reciprocal nature of community support.

Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda also addressed the audience, reinforcing the city’s commitment to supporting veterans. “This community supports our veterans and always will. It is important that we understand everything veterans have been through and will continue to face,” he affirmed. He urged everyone to treat veterans with the respect and fairness they deserve.

The “Salute to Patriots” event continues to serve as a vital reminder of the enduring contributions of veterans to local communities. Through recognition and appreciation, the SCV Chamber of Commerce aims to foster a culture of support and respect for those who have served in the military.
