Sacramento Holiday Bus Offers Free Rides and Supports Foster Youth

Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) launched its 2025 Holiday Bus on December 2, bringing festive cheer to the community while supporting foster youth. The bus, unveiled at Stanford Sierra Youth & Families in Sacramento, will provide free rides until January 2, 2026. Passengers are invited to make donations on board or online to assist programs dedicated to foster children in the region.

This year, SacRT has collaborated with the nonprofit Stanford Sierra Youth & Families, which serves over 2,800 foster youth, primarily teenagers. The organization offers essential mental health support and works to maintain connections among siblings and relatives. SacRT officials emphasized that the Holiday Bus initiative aims to raise awareness about the needs of foster youth while encouraging community involvement.

Community members can participate in the “Stuff the Bus” event on December 6, from 08:00 to 12:00, at the Sunrise Light Rail station in Rancho Cordova. Attendees are encouraged to bring toys and gift cards, which will be distributed directly to foster youth, helping to brighten their holiday season.

As part of its holiday activities, the Holiday Bus will also be featured in the Santa Parade on December 13 at 10:00, circling Capitol Park. This event will further spotlight the importance of supporting foster youth and the various ways individuals can contribute, whether through adoption, mentoring, or donations.
