The Pottstown Area Food Collaborative has launched a cooperative effort with various community organizations to distribute free Thanksgiving meal kits to local residents. This initiative aims to streamline the meal kit distribution process, ensuring that those in need receive essential food supplies during the holiday season.
Participating organizations include the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities, YWCA Tri-County Area, Pottstown High School, Pottstown Hospital-Tower Health, My Mobile Market, Trellis for Tomorrow, First Presbyterian Church Pottstown, Salvation Army Pottstown Corps, Mission First, and TriCounty Active Adult Center. Support from the Share Food Program and Philabundance further enhances this collaborative effort.
The meal kits will be available for pickup on November 24, 2023, from 16:00 to 18:00 at one of eight designated distribution sites. Pottstown area residents can reserve their meal kits by completing a simple online or paper form. More details and the reservation form can be found at the Pottstown Cluster website.
Collaborative Efforts Enhance Community Support
Since its formation in 2019, the Pottstown Area Food Collaborative has expanded to over 20 member organizations, all dedicated to providing various food and food-related services. The collaborative is chaired by Jennifer Anderson, Executive Director of Trellis for Tomorrow. Other key members include Craig Colistra, Senior Program Officer at the Pottstown Regional Community Foundation, and Jacqui Good, Executive Director of the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities.
This initiative represents one of the most significant programs undertaken by the collaborative. Anderson stated, “We are excited to have so many nonprofits coordinating and collaborating to amplify impact. We hope to distribute at least 800 meal kits with our community partners.”
The Pottstown Cluster will manage the collection and storage of the meal kit contents, while also coordinating volunteers for distribution. Good expressed enthusiasm for the project, saying, “We are thrilled to work with so many community partners, demonstrating what can be achieved when organizations partner together.”
