Jennifer Ott Takes City Manager Role in Hayward, Leaving Alameda
Jennifer Ott, the current City Manager of Alameda, has accepted the position of City Manager in Hayward, a role she previously held before her appointment in Alameda. The announcement was made public this week, with Ott set to begin her new role on December 8, 2023.
Ott’s journey back to Hayward comes after her tenure in Alameda, where she has served as the chief executive since November 2022. During her time in Alameda, Ott has implemented significant initiatives aimed at improving city governance and community engagement. Her previous experience in Hayward includes serving as both Deputy City Manager and Assistant City Manager, which has equipped her with a deep understanding of the local dynamics.
In a statement from the City of Hayward, Mayor Mark Salinas expressed enthusiasm regarding Ott’s return, saying, “The Council and I are thrilled to welcome Ms. Ott back to Hayward.” This sentiment reflects a broader appreciation for her leadership capabilities and vision for the city.
Ott’s departure from Alameda was acknowledged by Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, the Mayor of Alameda, who noted, “Jen has been an outstanding City Manager, and we will miss her.” The city plans to appoint an interim City Manager in January 2024, following Ott’s exit.
With over 25 years of experience in local government, particularly within Alameda County, Ott is well-prepared to tackle the challenges awaiting her in Hayward. Her extensive background in public administration and community relations speaks to her qualifications for this critical role.
In her own words, Ott shared her excitement about the transition, stating, “I am very excited for the opportunity to join former and new colleagues at the City of Hayward and meet the immediate challenges and future opportunities together.” This statement underscores her commitment to fostering collaboration and addressing the needs of Hayward’s residents.
As the city of Hayward anticipates Ott’s leadership, her experience and proven track record suggest a promising future for the community.
