French Elegance Meets Nashville Charm in Unique Southern Home
A distinctive home in Nashville blends traditional French design with the vibrant spirit of the American South. Nestled in the heart of the country music capital, this architectural gem redefines elegance through its sophisticated yet welcoming interiors. Designed by Leigh Misso of River Brook, the residence showcases a unique tapestry of styles that reflect both a European heritage and a modern Southern lifestyle.
The house exemplifies a style commonly referred to as French eclectic, which draws inspiration from 17th-century French architecture. Characterized by its hipped roofs, arched doorways, and tall windows, the design captures the essence of elegance while remaining functional for a local family with four children. Misso emphasizes the importance of creating intimate spaces, noting, “Each space needed to feel warm and inviting rather than overwhelming.”
Creating a Harmonious Space
The project began with a new build by Ray Kash of Montgomery Classic Construction. Misso and her team refined the existing plans to integrate livable, family-friendly designs. The kitchen, a focal point of the home, features an impressive Arabescato marble worktop, white oak cabinetry, and unlacquered brass fixtures. Sculptural white chairs surround a large island, which anchors the space, while custom leather stools from Coley Home add comfort and style.
Misso’s design philosophy focuses on texture and depth. “We wanted to add humanizing intimacy,” she explains. This is evident in the materials chosen, from the plaster fireplaces to the carefully curated color palettes. Each room was designed to stand out while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic throughout the home.
The dining room serves as a masterclass in contrast, with dark hues accentuated by natural light. The walls are painted in Studio Green by Farrow & Ball, while the ceiling boasts a Cloud Toile wallpaper by Schumacher. A striking burlwood dining table, custom-designed and shipped from Texas, complements the space and adds a dramatic touch.
A Tailored Experience for Every Family Member
The main bathroom further reflects the home’s sophisticated design. With white reeded oak cabinetry and elegant fixtures, it combines functionality with style. Misso recounts the careful planning involved in transporting a delicate lamp into the space, underscoring the attention to detail throughout the project.
Children’s bedrooms are designed to reflect their distinct personalities. One son’s room features a playful daybed suspended from the ceiling, embodying his adventurous spirit. In contrast, the daughter’s bedroom offers a serene retreat with a powder blue canopy bed, symbolizing a gentle transition from childhood to adolescence.
Leigh Misso notes the importance of incorporating elements that resonate with each family member. “Outward reflection of character is so important,” she states. This thoughtful approach ensures that the home functions harmoniously for all its inhabitants.
The finishing touch came in the form of an 18th-century tapestry discovered in Paris. The muted tones of gold, ebony, and caramel provided a striking focal point in the foyer. Misso reflects, “It felt instantly right,” perfectly encapsulating the marriage of French elegance and Nashville cool.
This unique residence stands as a testament to the power of design, harmonizing the rich cultural history of France with the lively character of Nashville. The result is a home that not only tells a story but also offers a warm and inviting atmosphere for its family.
