Dallas Bakery Starship Bagel Wins Top Honor at New York’s BagelFest

Starship Bagel, a bakery based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, achieved recognition at this year’s BagelFest by winning the coveted title of Best Bagel. The event took place at Citi Field in New York City, where the bakery triumphed for the second consecutive year, competing against participants from 13 states and three countries, as reported by ABC7NY.

BagelFest, an annual event celebrating bagel culture, attracted numerous bagel makers and enthusiasts from around the globe. This year, two dozen businesses competed for various accolades, including the Best of the Fest, Best of the Boroughs, and Best Schmear awards. Starship Bagel, which originally began in a home kitchen, distinguished itself among the competitors, according to Local Profile.

The People’s Choice Award at BagelFest was presented to Baltik’s Bagel from Richmond, Virginia. Festival organizer Sam Silverman emphasized that BagelFest not only showcases the unique culture of New York bagels but also celebrates the broader appreciation for this iconic food item worldwide.

Starship Bagel entered the competition with its signature Everything and sesame bagels, alongside a unique creation called the Lox-A-Roo. This item, featuring bagel chips paired with a lox-infused spread inspired by Dunk-a-Roos, captured the attention of the judges and became a festival favorite. The bakery is recognized for its generous toppings, which offer a distinct texture and flavor profile. Founder Oren Salomon stated that this style is unmatched in their local Texas market.

With three locations throughout Texas, Starship Bagel has garnered attention beyond its regional success, even making an appearance on Guy Fieri‘s show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The accolades received at New York’s BagelFest underscore the bakery’s commitment to quality and innovative flavors, reinforcing its status as a prominent player in the culinary scene.

The recognition at BagelFest not only highlights the bakery’s achievements but also marks a significant moment for the Dallas/Fort Worth culinary landscape. As the festival continues to grow in popularity, it remains a vital platform for showcasing both traditional and innovative approaches to bagel-making.
