Community Mourns Loss of Virgil Wayne Whitwell, 84, Beloved Family Man
Virgil Wayne Whitwell, aged 84, of Bonne Terre, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. An integral figure in his community, Whitwell’s life was marked by his deep love for family and his passion for classic cars, both of which defined his character and legacy.
Born on February 25, 1941, in St. Louis to the late Virgil A. and Veral (Chandler) Whitwell, Virgil dedicated his life to nurturing relationships. He was a devoted family man, cherishing moments spent with his five children: Vickie Ramsey and her husband Rickie, Cheryl Mitchell and her husband Dan, Betty Niccum and her husband Jody, Michael Whitwell and his wife Alicia, and Matthew Whitwell and his wife Kristin. His commitment to family extended to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that will endure.
A true enthusiast of classic cars, Virgil found joy in the craftsmanship and stories behind each vehicle. His passion for these automobiles was matched only by his affection for his dogs, whose unwavering loyalty brought him immense happiness throughout his life.
Virgil’s professional life was equally impactful. He spent several years working with Teamsters Local #610, where his strong work ethic and dedication were evident. His career not only reflected his commitment to his job but also his desire to support his loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia (O’Brien) Whitwell, as well as two grandchildren, Thomas and Timothy Niccum, and his brother, John Stallings. His stepfather, Clete Stallings, also passed before him.
Virgil is survived by an extensive family, including siblings Raymond Whitwell and his wife Liz, and Jean Hawkins and her husband Raymond, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. His legacy will continue through his children and grandchildren, including Deanna Hite, Paul (Makayla) Ramsey, Daniel (Bree) Mitchell, and many others. He leaves behind a total of twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge on October 23, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00. The visitation will continue on October 24, 2025, from 09:00 until the service time at 11:00, with Pastor Russell Dotson officiating. Interment will follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery.
