In a recent letter, the Scranton Counseling Center expressed gratitude for the coverage of behavioral health challenges in a January 4 article by Danielle Ohl published by Spotlight PA. The piece highlighted the chronic underfunding and systemic pressures facing community behavioral health providers throughout Pennsylvania. The center emphasized the importance of addressing these issues while also recognizing the resilience and innovation of local providers.
Highlighting the Importance of Community Care
The Scranton Counseling Center serves approximately 10,000 individuals annually, offering over 15 unique services that cater to various levels of care. Their services range from outpatient care and partial hospitalization to psychiatric rehabilitation and crisis intervention. The center also provides a variety of community-based programs, including blended case management and school-based services.
In their letter, Sarah Wodder, Psy.D., President and CEO of the center, and Margaret McNulty, M.S., Chair of the Board of Directors, highlighted their commitment to expanding staffing, reducing wait times, and ensuring that clients have efficient access to necessary services. Despite the financial constraints, they continue to invest in new treatment options to meet the evolving needs of the community.
Advocating for Essential Resources
The letter underscored the need for advocacy to secure the resources necessary to strengthen Pennsylvania’s behavioral health system. Wodder and McNulty expressed appreciation for Ohl’s efforts in shedding light on the funding challenges faced by providers. They affirmed their dedication to delivering compassionate and innovative care, which empowers individuals to lead fulfilling lives.
“Even amid financial constraints, our mission remains steadfast: to provide comprehensive and accessible behavioral health care that promotes wellness,”
Wodder and McNulty stated. The center’s ongoing work aims to ensure that individuals and families who rely on these services can receive the support they need.
The Scranton Counseling Center remains committed to its mission of enhancing behavioral health care availability and quality across the region, striving to foster an environment where individuals can thrive despite the challenges they face.
