The highly anticipated physical release of Tales of Xillia Remastered for Xbox has been canceled just a week before its scheduled launch on October 31, 2025. North American retailer Video Games Plus (VGP) announced the cancellation of the European Union version, stating that all preorders will be refunded. This sudden change has left many fans disappointed and confused.

VGP shared the news via a post on Bluesky, stating, “Regrettably, VGP has been informed that the EU physical edition of Tales of Xillia Remastered XBSX has been canceled.” The message continued, “All preorders will be canceled and refunded. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is beyond our control.”

While the announcement suggests other regions may still be receiving the physical release, it is important to note that the EU edition was the only confirmed version for Xbox. Consequently, this cancellation implies that the physical launch for the game on the platform has been effectively shelved.

The reasons behind this last-minute decision remain unclear. Efforts to obtain confirmation and further details from Bandai Namco, the game’s publisher, are ongoing. Fans who had anticipated the release, some of whom had already placed preorders, are seeking clarity on the situation.

The cancellation comes amid a challenging period for Xbox, as the company has faced significant scrutiny over recent price hikes across its ecosystem. Reports indicate that Xbox consoles have reached prices as high as $800, while subscriptions for Game Pass have increased from $20 to $30 per month. Additionally, development kits for the platform have reportedly surged by $500.

Despite this turmoil, some industry leaders continue to praise Microsoft’s overall publishing strategy. However, they express confusion regarding the recent price adjustments. A former executive from PlayStation remarked, “I don’t understand” the reasoning behind the Game Pass price increase.

As the gaming community processes the cancellation of Tales of Xillia Remastered, many are left to wonder about the future of the title’s physical release on Xbox and how this decision might impact the broader gaming landscape.
