Warner Bros. Addresses Bullying Allegations on Harry Potter Set

The upcoming Harry Potter television series has come under scrutiny following serious allegations of bullying on set. Reports indicate that two 12-year-old extras were involved in a physical altercation, prompting Warner Bros. to take immediate action. The studio has issued warnings to both adult and child cast members that any reports of bullying will lead to dismissal, regardless of their fame or status.

The show, which is set to be released on HBO in 2027, will feature notable actors, including John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. The allegations have raised concerns about the environment on set, with one actor reportedly heard saying, “I’m going to get you after filming.”

A source informed The Sun that the production team is taking the situation very seriously. “There are a lot of youngsters on set at any one time, and the reality is that not everyone is going to get on,” the insider stated. The source also noted, “Bosses want to get rid of any bad eggs among the cast and crew” and are committed to maintaining a safe filming environment.

To combat these issues, Warner Bros. has established anti-bullying policies and has communicated the procedures for reporting misconduct, allowing for anonymity. The studio has also offered free online counselling and coaching sessions for cast and crew, along with access to well-being resources.

Filming for the series is taking place in a specially constructed facility in Leavesden, England, which reportedly cost around £1 billion. This extensive production aims to bring the beloved story of Harry Potter to life over seven seasons, closely following the original books authored by JK Rowling.

According to JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros., the new series is anticipated to be a major event in streaming history. At an event in London on March 9, 2024, Perrette expressed enthusiasm, stating, “[Harry Potter is] the biggest streaming event in the history of HBO Max and arguably in streaming, period.”

The series aims to provide a more in-depth exploration of Harry Potter’s narrative, as the longer format allows for new storytelling elements not present in the original films. Despite the excitement surrounding the project, the production team is keen to ensure that the ongoing controversies, including those related to Rowling’s statements on transgender issues, do not overshadow the show’s release.

Warner Bros. has not publicly commented on the specific bullying allegations. The studio’s efforts to maintain secrecy about production details include labeling access lanyards with the name “Dark Train,” a term unrelated to the iconic wizarding franchise. As production continues, the focus remains on creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone involved.
