Renaissance Theatre Co. Celebrates Grand Reopening in Ivanhoe Village

The Renaissance Theatre Co. officially reopens its doors in Ivanhoe Village tonight, marking a significant milestone for the local performing arts community. After overcoming permitting issues with the city and operating temporarily from a different venue, the theatre is set to resume its activities at its original location on Princeton Street.

The company faced challenges last autumn that led to its closure. Despite this setback, the Renaissance Theatre Co. continued its artistic endeavors by hosting events like the Halloween-themed “Nosferatu” and drag nights in various locations throughout the city. In late November 2025, the theatre found a temporary home at the former Fringe Artspace on Church Street, where it successfully hosted shows such as “Mean Girls” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” viewing parties.

After months of collaboration with city officials, the Renaissance Theatre Co. received the green light to proceed with necessary upgrades and finalize its permitting applications. As of now, the theatre is ready to welcome back its audience, coinciding with the fortunate date of Friday, March 13, 2026.

Homecoming Celebrations Highlight Reopening

To commemorate its reopening, the Renaissance Theatre Co. has planned a series of events under the theme “Homecoming.” These festivities will kick off tonight and continue through the following weekend, featuring a variety of parties, drag shows, and a celebratory reception.

Creative director Donald Rupe expressed enthusiasm about the reopening, stating, “It’s a chance to come back home and be with one another while we work toward what’s next artistically. We’re starting our sixth year with a newfound appreciation of what we have, and we’re looking forward to a ‘re-Renaissance’ of sorts.”

The Homecoming lineup includes the “Un-Condemned” party on March 13, along with scheduled events such as Myki on Myki RuPaul’s Drag Race watch parties on March 15 and 21, “A Taste of La Mami” featuring Orusha San Miguel on March 17, and “Off the Record: Hannah’s Version” on March 18. A special Homecoming Reception will take place on March 20, culminating with the promisingly titled “Re-Renaissance” on March 20 and 21.

Tickets for these events can be purchased directly from the Renaissance Theatre Co.’s website. Additionally, performances of “Mean Girls” will continue at the Church Street location until March 15, with more events anticipated in the coming days.

This reopening not only signifies the return of a beloved cultural institution but also highlights the resilience of the local arts community. As the Renaissance Theatre Co. embarks on this new chapter, it aims to engage and inspire audiences with innovative performances and events.
