Andrew Jackson Joiner VI, known affectionately as “Big Dog,” passed away on February 2, 2026, leaving a profound legacy in his community and family. Born on August 23, 1949, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Louise (Campbell) Joiner and Andrew Jackson Joiner V, he was raised in Ellinwood, Kansas, before establishing his life in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Joiner was a man defined by his strong work ethic, integrity, and devotion to family. He attended Ellinwood High School, where his athletic prowess shone through in football, basketball, track and field, golf, and baseball. An active member of the student council, he served as President during his senior year, reflecting his leadership qualities early on.
After high school, he graduated from Oklahoma State University Tech in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Joiner dedicated 34 years to Crawley Petroleum, where he earned respect for his extensive knowledge and relentless commitment to excellence. Following his retirement, he continued to contribute to the industry as a part-time consultant, further solidifying his professional legacy.
Community Service and Family Dedication
A devoted member of his church and community, Joiner served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church and held a position on the school board in Fairview, Oklahoma. He co-founded the Major Co. Oil and Gas Association alongside his close friend, David Blundell. This organization played a crucial role in awarding scholarships to high school seniors in Major County, impacting numerous lives and fostering future generations.
Joiner’s adventurous spirit was evident in his love for motorcycling through scenic landscapes and camping trips in his RV. He cherished moments spent with family, often engaging in board games and fellowship, creating lasting memories. His children and grandchildren were the center of his world, and he was known for traveling extensively to support their various endeavors.
Known for his vibrant personality, Joiner had a way of filling any room he entered. His familiar humming often preceded his arrival, making him a beloved figure in both his family and community. As he was described by many, he was “world famous and widely known” for his warmth and kindness.
Legacy and Remembrance
Andrew Jackson Joiner VI is survived by his wife, Patricia Joiner; his children Scott (Johnnie) Mead, Steffanie (Steve) Hendricks, Jack (Cynthia) Joiner VII, Ty (Shelly) Joiner, Casey (Vanessa) Joiner, and Kelly Joiner; as well as his daughter-in-law, Tamra Stephens; his brother, Don (Rosie) Joiner; and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the pride of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Andrew Jackson Joiner V; his sister, Chris Gresham; his brothers, Kevin and Mike Joiner; and his son, Bradley Stephens. A celebration of life service will take place at a later date in Weatherford, Oklahoma, and his ashes will be interred at Lakin Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kansas.
Joiner’s life was marked by faith, service, and love. He leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him—a testament to a life well lived and a man who will be deeply missed.
