Lionsgate has released the highly anticipated teaser trailer for “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” a new addition to the iconic franchise. Set in the dystopian world of Panem, the film takes place 24 years before the original “The Hunger Games” series, specifically during the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
The narrative begins with a young Plutarch Heavensbee, portrayed by Jesse Plemons, in District 12. The story captures the grim atmosphere surrounding the reaping of the tributes, where he encounters a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada. This character is destined to become a pivotal figure in the series, as he later mentors Katniss Everdeen during the 74th Hunger Games.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier. Additional notable performances include Maya Hawke as Wiress, Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow, and Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket. The cast also features Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan, Billy Porter as Magno Stift, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, and Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow.
Francis Lawrence takes the helm as director, working from a screenplay by Billy Ray, based on the novel by Suzanne Collins. Producers for the film include Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, both of whom have been integral to the franchise’s success.
The film is set to be released in cinemas on November 20, 2026, promising to deliver a gripping prequel that explores the origins of the Hunger Games and the complex characters that inhabit its world. As anticipation builds, fans of the franchise are eager to see how this new installment will expand upon the beloved universe established in the previous films.
With its blend of high-stakes drama, rich character development, and critical themes, “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” looks poised to capture the attention of both loyal followers and new audiences alike.
