Lifetime has announced its entry into the microdrama sector with the launch of a new series titled Tides of Temptation. This project is linked to the network’s upcoming original film, Terry McMillan Presents: Paradise With You, which features and is executive produced by Taye Diggs. The announcement was made during A+E Global Media’s upfront presentation on March 15, 2024.
The microdrama serves as a digital extension of the film, part of Lifetime’s “Love of a Lifetime” film franchise, which includes two additional movies. Alongside Diggs, the executive production team comprises Autumn Frederici, Shelby Stone, and Jake Helgren of The Ninth House, the same production company behind Paradise With You.
Filmed in a vertical format with brief episodes, Tides of Temptation centers on a young woman, portrayed by Mea Wilkerson, who becomes romantically involved with an athlete, played by Q Stenline, also known as SwagBoyQ. The storyline unfolds on the Caribbean island of Nevis, featuring additional cast members such as Troy Brookins and David John Craig. The series is directed by Gary and Edmund Entin, with a script penned by Nanea Miyata based on a story by Ejay Jamison.
Strategic Expansion into Digital Space
Rob Sharenow, president of programming for A+E Global Media, expressed enthusiasm for the innovative approach, stating, “When we first heard the pitch from Autumn and Taye for a microdrama connected to a movie, it felt like a smart, strategic way to enter the vertical space.” He emphasized that this format allows the network to broaden the film’s narrative while maintaining high storytelling quality and production standards.
Diggs also shared insights on the creative vision behind the project. He remarked, “We approached this as a fully realized dramatic project, not just short-form content. It’s an opportunity to bring emotional depth and visual ambition into a format designed for today’s audiences.” This commitment to storytelling is expected to resonate with viewers who engage with content across various platforms.
Additional Film Projects Announced
In conjunction with the microdrama, Lifetime revealed partnerships with renowned figures such as Queen Latifah and Taraji P. Henson, who will produce original films for the channel. The other two films within the “Love of a Lifetime” series are Love, Again, starring Valerie Bertinelli, Henry Czerny, and Eric McCormack, and When I Said I Do, which is executive produced by Clint and Lisa Hartman Black.
With Tides of Temptation, Lifetime aims to capture the attention of a new generation of viewers, blending traditional storytelling with modern viewing habits. The series, along with the films in the franchise, is poised to enrich Lifetime’s content offerings and enhance its presence in the competitive landscape of digital media.
