Jonathan Hickman Launches Spider-Man Comic Ahead of Film Release

Jonathan Hickman, a prominent name in the comic book industry, is set to bring together beloved characters from the Marvel universe in his latest project. The new comic series titled Spider-Man: Long Way Home will feature Spider-Man, Punisher, and the Hulk, coinciding with the release of the movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2023.

The comic series, which launches on June 17, 2023, promises a narrative that is “unrestrained” by existing Marvel continuity. This allows the creators to explore a standalone adventure set in the South American jungle, where the three protagonists will seek a reality-altering Cosmic Cube before it falls into the hands of the villainous organization, AIM.

Hickman, who previously led the X-Men into a new era with the Krakoa storyline and redefined the Ultimate Universe, is joined by seasoned artist Adam Kubert, known for his impactful work on various Marvel characters, including both Spider-Man and the Hulk. The creative team is completed by colorist Frank Martin, who aims to enhance the visual storytelling of this exciting new series.

Marvel’s official synopsis hints at a gripping tale: “A DARK HOMECOMING AWAITS… It’s a world before the Punisher. A world where the existence of the Hulk is but a whisper of a rumor.” This sets the stage for a thrilling encounter as Peter Parker, Frank Castle, and Bruce Banner navigate a high-stakes conflict for cosmic power.

Hickman expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Kubert, stating, “I’m so happy to be working with Adam Kubert again and even happier that we’re getting to work on Spider-Man: Long Way Home. Absolutely no one is going to see this one coming.” Kubert echoed his excitement, saying, “A five-issue Hickman saga with Spidey, Hulk, and Punisher? Total no-brainer.”

Fans of the franchise can look forward to a unique storyline that diverges from traditional narratives, offering fresh perspectives on these iconic characters. As anticipation builds for both the comic and the film, this is an ideal moment for enthusiasts to explore the best Spider-Man comics and movies throughout history.

With the comic set to debut shortly before the film’s release, the convergence of these two major events highlights the enduring appeal of Spider-Man and his allies in the ever-evolving Marvel landscape.
