Jaafar Jackson Takes Center Stage as Michael Jackson in Upcoming Biopic

Jaafar Jackson will portray his legendary uncle, Michael Jackson, in a highly anticipated biopic scheduled for release in April 2026. The film, aptly titled Michael, will explore the iconic pop star’s early career and rise to fame, particularly during the transformative years leading up to the 1980s.

The biopic, produced by Graham King of Bohemian Rhapsody fame and directed by Antoine Fuqua, is set to deliver a comprehensive look at Michael Jackson’s life. Originally planned as a three-and-a-half-hour feature, reports suggest that it may be divided into two parts, with the second part focusing on his later years. While initial plans aimed for a 2025 release, the film was postponed due to necessary reshoots.

The teaser trailer has already generated excitement among fans, showcasing Jaafar transforming into Michael. Clips reveal him recording early hits in the studio and performing on stage, reminiscent of his uncle’s electrifying performances. Jaafar, now 29 years old, is the son of Jermaine Jackson and has eight siblings. Before entering the entertainment industry, he aspired to be a professional golfer, but his passion for music and performance took over.

Jaafar made his stage debut at the age of 12, performing alongside his brother Jermajesty and their father, Jermaine, at the MAX Proms in the Netherlands. He later showcased his talent at the prestigious Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for his solo debut. His single, Got Me Singing, released a year later, has garnered nearly three million streams on Spotify. In 2024, he released a remix of this track and currently has approximately 8,500 monthly listeners on the platform.

The Jackson family has expressed support for Jaafar’s casting. His grandmother, Katherine Jackson, has given her blessing for him to take on this significant role. Colman Domingo, who portrays Joe Jackson, mentioned in an interview with People that he spoke with Michael’s eldest children, Paris and Prince, who are supportive of the film. Domingo described Paris as “nothing but lovely and warm” regarding the project.

In a nod to Michael’s legacy, there are reports indicating that the family is considering the O2 Arena in London for the film’s premiere. This venue holds special significance, as it was Michael’s dream to perform there.

Jaafar has expressed his enthusiasm about stepping into his uncle’s shoes, stating, “I’m humbled and honored to bring my uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.” Following the trailer’s release, fans have taken to social media to express their excitement. One viewer commented on YouTube, “His voice is IDENTICAL to Michael’s!!! Even the laugh.” Another fan noted, “It’s absolutely awesome that he’s able to pay tribute to his uncle like this,” while a third added, “He doesn’t look close to him, but the voice is dead on. Imagine portraying your iconic uncle! Can’t wait to see this; it looks like it will be epic!”

As anticipation builds for this biopic, Jaafar Jackson appears to be poised to make a significant impact in the entertainment world, honoring the legacy of one of music’s greatest icons.
