Ellinwood High School (EHS) has launched a new initiative to highlight the achievements and aspirations of its senior students. Student Library Assistant Madison Dombroski will profile different seniors throughout the academic year, beginning with two prominent students: Phillip Penner and Adam Hayes.
Spotlight on Phillip Penner
Phillip Penner, a senior at EHS, is dedicated to making the most of his final year. He credits his family, particularly his mother, Kelli Penner, and father, Christopher Stromski, for their support and guidance. Phillip’s reading recommendation is the Bible, which he believes has profoundly impacted his life and can do the same for others.
He shares a motivational quote that resonates with him: “Giving up on your goals because of one setback is like slashing all four of your tires because one is flat,” attributed to Dolamar Cross. This perspective reflects Phillip’s understanding of resilience and determination.
Phillip has learned from his peers that family extends beyond biological ties, emphasizing the importance of chosen relationships. His advice to incoming students is clear: stop worrying about the opinions of others and take control of your own life. He plans to pursue a career as a certified electrician after graduating and hopes to establish his own business in the future. Wishing him well in his final year, EHS celebrates Phillip’s accomplishments and aspirations.
Highlighting Adam Hayes
Also featured is Adam Hayes, another senior at EHS with a strong family background. His parents, Glennda French and Jimmy Hayes, along with his siblings Jacob, Ethan, Zaid, and Tyler, contribute to a lively family dynamic, including eight nieces and nephews. Adam recommends the “I Survived” book series for its engaging short stories that captivate younger readers.
His favorite quote, “I love my mama,” comes from Bobby Bushay, reflecting the importance of family in his life. Mrs. Fischer, his favorite teacher, is known for creating a fun learning environment, often incorporating food into her lessons. Adam particularly enjoys a plumbing class he takes at Barton Community College, which aligns with his career interests.
Adam advises incoming students to take advantage of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes offered at Barton, highlighting the value of practical skills in today’s job market. Like Phillip, Adam is poised for a successful year ahead, and EHS looks forward to seeing what the future holds for him.
This initiative, directed by Sheri Holmes, the director of library and media services for the Ellinwood School and Community Libraries, aims to foster community spirit and recognize the achievements of students. She can be contacted via email at [email protected].
