This foresight has allowed her to maintain competitive pricing despite potential market fluctuations.

The uncertainty surrounding tariffs also influenced marketing strategies. Roehmer shared that her store opted to omit prices from its printed holiday catalog, a decision made to provide flexibility in pricing as the season progressed.

Community Support Drives Local Sales

Retailers face unique logistical challenges during the holiday rush. Jenn Mawcinitt, owner of Wildlings Toy Boutique, coordinated with fellow local business owners to ensure her shelves remained stocked with popular items, such as train sets. “We had to plan far ahead,” she explained. “We were really lucky. Another small business in the area gave us some storage space because that’s always been one of our concerns.”

Despite the increasing dominance of e-commerce, many shoppers in the Phoenix area express a strong preference for supporting local businesses. Andie Mercer, who visited Kidstop in search of a Jellycat plush toy for her daughter, reflected on her shopping experience. “I’ve been doing a lot of Amazon, so it’s nice to be out in public and do the thing,” she remarked.
