Midland School Board to Vote on Superintendent Contract Today

UPDATE: The Midland Public Schools Board of Education is set to evaluate and vote on the contract of Superintendent Penny Miller-Nelson during a critical meeting today at 7 p.m.. This urgent session will occur at the MPS administration center located at 600 East Carpenter.

The board plans to enter a closed session under the Open Meetings Act to discuss Miller-Nelson’s personnel evaluation. Following this, they will return to open session to cast votes on her evaluation and the potential renewal of her contract. This decision is pivotal for the future direction of the school district.

Today’s agenda also includes several presentations, such as updates from the Superintendent Student Advisory Team and a review of high school athletics. Board President Phil Rausch will provide insights on strategic and facility planning, highlighting ongoing developments that impact students and the community.

Further, the board will handle public comments before turning to reports from the curriculum, instruction, and assessment committee, as well as the finance, facilities, and operations committee. Notably, they will also consider a resolution for the sale of a key property at 2900 Dauer Street to Midland County Habitat for Humanity for $250,000. This site, previously home to Ashman School and later known as the Franklin Center, has been approved for the construction of 14 single-family homes to be built by MPS building trades students.

In addition, the board will take action on generous gifts totaling $27,800 to support various educational initiatives. This meeting is crucial for shaping the future of Midland Public Schools and ensuring that the needs of the community and students are met.
